LIVE FROM IOT SOLUTIONS WORLD CONGRESS, BARCELONA: The World AIoT Innovation Alliance (WAIA) held a global signing ceremony earlier today (14 May), advancing its goal of fostering a unified AI-enabled industrial IoT sector spanning supply chains, cross-border systems and convergence.

The non-profit group was launched in August 2024 by more than 15 national AIoT associations, industry leaders and a host of experts in Asia-Pacific and Europe.

Speakers at the ceremony outlined its commitment to collaboration, innovation, standards alignment and cross-border connectivity.

Steffi Sun, WAIA secretary general (pictured, left), explained the group aims to provide “everyone further opportunities to do more projects together”.

AIoT experts in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Taipei, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia have been joined in the initiative by peers in Italy, Belgium and Spain.

“We look forward to working with global groups to advance new applications, scale markets, and co-create a more open, intelligent and resilient AIoT future,” Sun said.

Europe’s interests were represented by Frederik Tibau, expert in digital innovation and growth, and project lead for scale-up programmes with Belgian technology industry federation Agoria.

“Today we stand at a crossroads of AI and IoT innovation where technology meets urgent global challenges, from revolutionising manufacturing to accelerating the green transition [and] reshaping how we move and how we live.”

“At Agoria, we believe that ecosystem collaboration is not just an option, it really is a necessity,” Tibau added, noting together with partners it is “building a smarter, greener and more resilient AI and IoT future together.”
