Hamilton reflects on ‘really special moment’ as co-chair of 2025 Met Gala

Lewis Hamilton was left delighted by the reception to the 2025 Met Gala, with the seven-time World Champion – who acted as a co-chair of the event – hailing the theme of ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ as a “really special moment”.

Having been a regular attendee of the prestigious fashion event in recent years, Hamilton joined musician and designer Pharrell Williams, actor Colman Domingo, musician A$AP Rocky and Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour to co-chair this year’s evening on May 5 at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

And with the dress code for the 2025 event being ‘Tailored for You’ in honour of the exhibition theme, Hamilton teamed up with British designer Grace Wales Bonner to create his look.

The Briton wore an ivory suit – along with a beret by Stephen Jones Millinery – in an ensemble that featured plenty of symbolism and references to his ancestral history, with Hamilton telling his Instagram followers that “every detail has been deeply considered – there’s a lot of emotion and meaning woven into this”.

Before his focus switches to racing again at this weekend’s Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver was asked during Thursday’s media day about how thrilled he was with how the whole event had unfolded.

“I really was,” Hamilton smiled. “I always try to be really intentional, especially at that event. The theme was very close to my heart, it was something that I spoke to Anna [about] three years ago, so I was one of the first to be a part of starting talking to her about it.

«Bringing in those little elements that really pay homage to my ancestral background, and it’s really quite cool to then see people going and focusing on those pieces and then finding out a little bit more about them.

“I think that’s really what those moments are really about. We can all continue to be able to learn from things like that, it’s not just a fashion moment.
