Vote on delaying application of new sustainability and due diligence rules

In a vote at noon, MEPs will decide whether to postpone the application dates for new EU laws on due diligence and sustainability reporting requirements. If the “stop-the-clock” proposal is approved, the biggest companies will get one more year to prepare for new due diligence rules, and some companies will have two extra years before having to comply with the new sustainability reporting rules.

Support for energy-intensive industries: vote on a resolution

Following Wednesday’s debate, MEPs will adopt their roadmap for supporting energy-intensive industries. The draft resolution, to be voted on at noon, calls on the EU to support the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries in order to stay competitive globally. It also calls for action to counter unfair global competition, secure the availability of critical and secondary raw materials, and support the workers and regions worst affected by the green transition.

European action plan on rare diseases

In a debate with Health Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi at 9.00, MEPs are expected to call on the Commission to present a European action plan on rare diseases. They are also set to highlight the need to strengthen European cooperation and coordination so as to improve access to knowledge, diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases. The importance of ensuring better availability of and access to medicines and of supporting training, development and research for healthcare professionals is also likely to be raised.

In brief

Healthcare-related tourism. At 15.00, MEPs will discuss with Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi how EU patients can be better protected when travelling abroad for healthcare treatment.

Armenian genocide. In a debate starting at around 11.00, MEPs and Commissioner Várhelyi will mark the 110th anniversary of the Armenian genocide.

Votes

At 12.00, MEPs will vote, among other things, on:

  • the prosecution of journalists in Cameroon;
  • the execution spree in Iran;
  • the immediate risk of further repression by Lukashenka’s regime in Belarus; and
  • targeted attacks against Christians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
