Multinational energy company Uniper inked a deal with Microsoft and Celonis to increase the use of AI across its business, with the aim of intelligently automating workflows and improving visibility.

In a statement, Celonis noted the power player would scale the use of AI using its process intelligence platform and Microsoft’s Copilot Studio and Power Automate products.

Uniper CIO Damian Bunyan highlighted the company wanted to be a “pioneer in digital transformation”, given “the energy industry is facing major challenges”.

He added the combination of products from its pair of partners in the latest move “lets us identify value-driving AI use cases, intelligently automate workflows and track performance gains”, outlining an ambition to “optimise our operations, empower our employees and deliver greater value to our customers”.

Uniper is a European energy company active in more than 40 countries which operates 19.5GW of generation capacity in Europe, a factor it asserts places it among the world’s largest power producers.

The company collaborated with Celonis over five years on various initiatives related to operational improvements. This includes in plant maintenance and HR systems, and business reporting.
