Colt Technology Services (Colt), the global digital infrastructure company, today announced it has collaborated with Microsoft on the launch of Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute Metro service in Madrid. This step marks a key advancement in cloud connectivity in Europe, allowing businesses to establish highly resilient private connections directly with Azure, offering greater security, performance, and availability for critical workloads. This launch in Madrid represents a new milestone in the strategic collaboration between Microsoft and Colt, following successful joint deployments in Amsterdam, Zurich, and Singapore.
Azure ExpressRoute Metro offers a highly reliable configuration designed to ensure multi-site redundancy, allowing businesses to maintain business continuity with confidence. Thanks to a dual-homed design, organizations obtain diversified connections to two Azure ExpressRoute interconnection locations within the same metropolitan area, significantly enhancing service stability and continuity. This dual connectivity is essential for organizations that rely on continuous access to cloud services and hybrid environments, offering greater operational stability and robustness.
The launch of this service in Madrid is particularly relevant for both regional and multinational companies seeking constant, low-latency access to Azure resources. By using private and dedicated network routes, businesses can maintain high standards of data privacy and comply with regulatory requirements.
Azure ExpressRoute Metro enables private connections between local networks and Azure, avoiding the use of the public Internet. These connections are made through Microsoft Enterprise Edge (MSEE) devices located in shared data centers that act as gateways to Microsoft’s extensive global network.
Speaking about the collaboration, Joan Monrabá, Country Manager, Colt Technology Services Spain, stated: “At Colt, we are delighted to collaborate with Microsoft on the launch of Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute Metro in Madrid. This initiative reflects our shared commitment to helping businesses build more resilient, secure, and high-performance network infrastructures. Our ongoing collaboration in strategic cities worldwide demonstrates mutual trust and the innovative spirit driving this alliance.”
With the demand for cloud solutions at historic highs, the Azure ExpressRoute Metro service in Madrid positions Microsoft and Colt in a unique position to drive digital transformation in the Iberian Peninsula.
