El UD Almería Stadium vivió uno de esos partidos que se quedarán para siempre en el recuerdo por todo lo que se vivió; un auténtico éxtasis para los aficionados rojiblancos que vieron un gran espectáculo futbolístico. El conjunto indálico se clasificó para los octavos de final de la Copa del Rey eliminando a todo un Sevilla FC, remontando un 0-1 adverso con el que se llegó al descanso y marcando cuatro golazos en el segundo período ante más de 15.000 seguidores. Marezi, una de las novedades en el once, empató, y luego Luis Suárez volvió a hacer un hat-trick para redondear una noche mágica. Rubi, como lo adelantó en la previa, puso un once reconocible con el que suele aportar en la Liga, aunque con algunas novedades, destacando sobre todo la presencia en el equipo de Radovanovic, en el centro de la defensa, y de Marezi en el ataque junto al colombiano. Un 4-4-2 con el que se intentaba sorprender al Sevilla, como así ocurrió al final, pero para eso tuvieron que ocurrir muchas cosas. Las cosas se pusieron muy cuesta arriba porque el Sevilla FC se adelantaba en el marcador cuando todavía no se había cumplido el minuto 5. Incluso pudo hacer el 0-2 en el 8, pero Maximiano lo evitó con una gran intervención. El tanto hizo mella en el Almería, que estuvo tocado hasta el minuto 20, cuando comenzó a reaccionar del golpe recibido. Hasta entonces estuvo a merced de los sevillistas, que llegaban con mucha claridad. Poco a poco se rehízo y pasó a llevar la iniciativa generando peligro. Luis Suárez, en el 27; Marezi, en el 29; de nuevo el colombiano en el 39 y Nico Melamed, en el 44, tuvieron sus oportunidades. En cualquier caso se llegaba con 0-1 al descanso. Lo del segundo tiempo fue puro espectáculo tanto en el campo como en las gradas donde los aficionados… del Almería, disfrutaron… ¡cómo disfrutaron! El partido se acababa de reanudar y Marezi, desde fuera del área, mandó un obús que dio en el palo y se fue al fondo de las mallas. Era el empate en el minuto 48. Poco después, en el 54, jugadón de Bruno Langa, Pozo y Marezi que culminaba Luis Suárez. Los indálicos le habían dado la vuelta al marcador con fútbol y casta. El Almería había puesto contra cuerdas a su rival. El conjunto almeriense no sólo jugaba con criterio y calidad, sino que también hacía un excelente trabajo en defensa para evitar que el Sevilla se metiera de nuevo en el encuentro. En el minuto 61, en una mala salida de balón, los hispalenses tuvieron el 2-2, pero la rabia, el coraje y la entrega de los jugadores locales lo evitó; Radovanovic, que interceptó la pelota, lo celebraba como si hubiera marcado. No era para menos. El Almería estaba lanzado, con un público entregado, y continuaba mandando, y además de qué manera. En el 77, otra brillante acción saliendo desde atrás. Marc Pubill sirvió a Arnau Puigmal, que acababa de salir al terreno de juego, todo ello por la banda derecha, centró y Luis Suárez marcó el 3-1. El estadio se venía abajo, máxime cuando ya en pleno recital, Quintanilla mandaba al palo y en el descuento el delantero colombiano hacia el cuarto al transformar un penalti. 4-1, y a octavos de final de manera brillante y espectacular.
