Brits have been issued with a Covid-era mask warning….

They have been urged to consider wearing face masks again as the country grapples with a ‘quad-demic’ with four viruses surging across the country. Not unusaul for this time of the year..

Four viruses are reported to be surging across the country this winter: the adenovirus, the former Chinese mystery virus HMPV, parainfluenza and rhinovirus have all seen an increase in cases.

Just a few weeks ago Dr Conall Watson, Consultant Epidemiologist at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued a covid era warning. Urging caution he said “There are many viruses in circulation at the moment, including flu – if you have symptoms of a respiratory illness and you need to go out, our advice continues to be that you should consider wearing a face mask.”

Examiner Live reports: The most prevalent virus currently is the rhinovirus, which can lead to deadly pneumonia in those with compromised immune systems.

Between February 3 and 9, rates of rhinovirus increased from 10.1 to 11.6 percent. Adenovirus positivity rates also rose by 0.6 percent from 3.6 to 4.2 percent, while parainfluenza saw a similar increase from 0.9 to 1.5 percent.

Reports indicate a startling jump in HMPV (human metapneumovirus) rates, ticking up from 4.2 to 4.5 percent across England and Wales.

This uptick occurs alongside the escalating impact of the notorious norovirus, with health authorities observing its strengthening grip within the UK.

A concerning sign comes from the recent surveillance by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), revealing a substantial 22.6 percent increase in cases against a “five-season average” This surge is linked to an “unusual” variant of the virus, known as genotype GII. 17, capable of causing severe dehydration, reports the Mirror.
