Opmeer claims victory as F1 Sim Racing World Championship continues in Mexico City

Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing driver Jarno Opmeer emerged victorious as the 2025 F1 Sim Racing World Championship continued at Mexico City’s Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on Tuesday night.

Opmeer started the race in fifth position, behind polesitter Thomas Ronhaar from the KICK F1 Sim Racing Team, Otis Lawrence from the Aston Martin Aramco F1 Esports Team, Red Bull team mate Frederik Rasmussen and Bari Broumand of the Scuderia Ferrari HP Esports Team.

Ronhaar converted his pole advantage on the long run down to Turn 1, but a determined Lawrence soon found his way to the front – the rookie once again impressing against plenty more experienced rivals.

Lawrence maintained P1 over Ronhaar, Rasmussen and Opmeer as the 36-lap encounter developed, until Broumand – the first of the top-five drivers to pit for fresh tyres – cycled to the head of the field when strategies played out.

A thrilling battle ensued in the closing stages, with Lawrence and Broumand going wheel-to-wheel on several occasions, before Opmeer brilliantly went from third to first in one go with a DRS-assisted move at Turn 1.

Opmeer kept a cool head over the final few kilometres to take the chequered flag a few tenths clear of Broumand and Lawrence, while Rasmussen, Origin RB’s Tom Manley and Ferrari’s Nicolas Longuet completed the top six.

Ronhaar’s hopes of scoring a podium were dashed when he came to blows with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports Team rival Daniel Bereznay at the first corner and later earned a three-second penalty for “multiple warnings”.

Event 3 of the F1 Sim Racing World Championship will be picked up on Wednesday, with fans able to follow all the action live on F1.com.
