The development of this new platform will support the peer review process and user management for applications to EuroHPC JU Access Calls For each call, the EuroHPC JU Access Resource Committee (ARC), composed of leading international scientists and engineers, evaluates and ranks submitted proposals, recommending resource allocations based on scientific and technical excellence. This review process is a fundamental mechanism that ensures open, fair, and unbiased access to EuroHPC Supercomputers, fostering groundbreaking research and innovation across Europe.
The platform will be instrumental in optimising the management of EuroHPC’s Access Calls while providing a more efficient and user-friendly experience for applicants and reviewers. It will be developed by Akron ApS, a Danish based IT company specialised in peer-review management platforms.
The platform’s functionalities will continue to evolve in the future to meet emerging needs in HPC application domains such as Generative AI and Machine Learning. Additionally, the new platform will be integrated with the upcoming federation platform, enabling seamless data exchange for access allocations, usage, and user management.
Users accessing EuroHPC supercomputers will experience no disruptions, as data migration from the existing platform will be carried out smoothly to ensure uninterrupted service continuity.
Background
Akron ApS was selected following a call for tender EuroHPC/2024/OP/0005, launched in July 2024.
Following the signing of the contract, with Akron ApS, the selected provider, a kick-off meeting is took place on 12-13 February in Luxembourg.
The EuroHPC JU is a legal and funding entity, created in 2018 to enable the European Union and participating countries to coordinate efforts and pool resources with the objective of making Europe a world leader in supercomputing.
In order to equip Europe with a world-leading supercomputing infrastructure, the EuroHPC JU has already procured nine supercomputers, located across Europe.
Regardless of their location in Europe, European scientists and users from the public sector and industry can benefit from these EuroHPC supercomputers via the EuroHPC Access Calls. This access enables them to advance science and support the development of a wide range of applications with industrial, scientific, and societal relevance for Europe.
In parallel, the EuroHPC JU funds research and innovation projects to develop a full European supercomputing supply chain: from processors and software to applications to be run on these supercomputers and know-how to develop strong European HPC expertise.
Recently reviewed by means of Council Regulation (EU) 2024/1732, the EuroHPC JU received a new mandate to develop and operate AI factories. These comprehensive open AI ecosystems located around EuroHPC supercomputing facilities will support the growth of a highly competitive and innovative AI ecosystem in Europe.
