UAE-headquartered du moved to tackle attenuation in sub-6GHz and mmWave signals by deploying pureLiFi’s Bridge XC system, targeting an overhaul in outdoor consumer premises equipment (CPE).

CTO Saleem Alblooshi explained du is seeking a way to overcome attenuation caused by the materials used to construct buildings. The operator is set to trial pureLiFi’s set-up with a view to boosting its 4G, 5G, fixed wireless access and fibre optical network terminals.

“Buildings naturally challenge 5G coverage”, Alblooshi noted.

He said pureLiFi’s Bridge XC product is attractive because it “eliminates those barriers” and offers “lightning-fast” installation.

Bridge XC was originally marketed as LINXC Bridge. It uses light to send signals from external CPE to indoor LANs through windows, an arrangement pureLiFi states overcomes much of the attenuation caused by buildings, which it notes is a particular problem for mmWave.

The company stated deployments by du are the first for a consumer LiFi system in the MENA region and would enhance user experience by enabling “low-latency, multi-gigabit speeds”.

CEO Alistair Banham added Bridge XC is designed to be easily installed by end-users.

The pureLiFi product was developed in conjunction with Solace Power and “can enable six-times network capacity gains on sub-6GHz 5G”, Banham said.
