US-based networking systems and software provider Ciena backed additional services for operators and cloud companies to boost CAGR beyond the levels predicted based on its core operations, as it revealed earnings data for the fiscal quarter ended 3 May.

Ciena chiefs expect fresh offerings involving operator interconnection, metro routing and broadband access to be additional growth drivers.

The company also anticipates a boost from interconnection products for cloud service providers and outlined a new target area in the form of providing optical components for original design and equipment manufacturers.

In an earnings presentation, Ciena noted the fresh fields expand on core service provider offerings including optical, routing and switching, and software, along with cloud-focused optical products.

Ciena backed coherent technology for a greater role in the era of AI, in particular for metro deployments.

President and CEO Gary Smith stated Ciena is experiencing a bump in demand “driven by cloud and AI”, which paid off in the form of a net profit of $9 million in fiscal Q2 2025, overturning a $16.8 million loss in the comparable period of fiscal 2024.

Smith said a “positive network infrastructure spending environment” is providing Ciena with “strong visibility” and confidence in its growth potential.

Ciena booked revenue of $1.1 billion compared with $910.8 million in fiscal Q2 2024, the bulk of which derived from its networking platforms.
