Youth work refers to activities with and for young people of a social, cultural, educational or political nature. The main objective of youth work is to provide opportunities for young people to develop their potential and shape their own future.

Youth work is part of the European Union’s youth policy and is the at the centre of the ‘Empower’ pillar within the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027.

The 4th European Youth Work Convention is a major event that will bring 500 people from all over Europe to Malta to discuss and shape the future of youth work. European Youth Work Conventions have been organised every five years since 2010. The convention gathers youth workers, policymakers, researchers, staff from Erasmus+ National Agencies, and other relevant stakeholders with a strong interest in the topic. The goal is to enhance the impact of youth work with the aim to build a brighter and more inclusive future for young people and for society at large.

The European Commission supports youth work via the EU – Council of Europe Youth Partnership and through the many opportunities in Erasmus+ Youth. This includes Youth workers mobility, where every year, 40.000 to 50.000 people build their professional skills.

The Convention is a key moment to shape the vision for youth work in Europe and make it a core element of youth policy at both EU and national levels.

As part of the Convention, a dedicated workshop will invite participants to discuss what the EU Youth Strategy should look like after 2027. It’s part of the listening process to make sure that voices of young people and youth workers are heard for the new strategy.
