Deutsche Telekom lined up the CTO of its domestic unit Abdurazak Mudesir to succeed Claudia Nemat (pictured) as board member for technology and innovation, who is leaving to pursue various entrepreneurial opportunities.
The switch is scheduled for 1 October, a little earlier than Nemat’s contract was due to expire.
Deutsche Telekom stated Nemat informed the board she would not seek to renew her contract “at an early stage”.
She was the board member for Europe from 2011 until the close of 2016 and took up her current role at the start of 2017, but is now seeking to use her managerial and leadership experience to build “a portfolio of entrepreneurial activities”.

Mudesir (pictured, left) is currently CTO in Nemat’s executive board and holds the same role in Deutsche Telekom’s domestic unit.
CEO Timotheus Hoettges drew attention to the fact Nemat brought Mudesir into the company and groomed the executive to be her successor by assigning tasks which left him “well prepared” for the step up.
Hoettges highlighted Mudesir’s technical expertise and role in advancing Deutsche Telekom’s deployment of next-generation network architectures including openRAN, cloud infrastructure and controls employing AI.
“Innovation is part of his DNA”.
Nemat pledged to “invest in Germany as a technology and AI location and further develop future models in combination with international board mandates”.
